    Chips Ahoy!

Chips Ahoy! p.s. update this picture with something that wasn't from uni. p.p.s. buy new camera!

Hello there and welcome to my site! My name is Jamie Sutherland.. As the domain name suggests and this is my site for storing loads of random information that I find useful. It might also get used to showcase some work that I end up producing. Anyhow, I’ll fire in some stuff about me below.

If you’ve read some of the posts on this page then you my have already guessed that I’m a bit of a geek. I enjoy playing with new technologies to see if they can make life easier that little bit easier.

I live in a little place called West Clifton which is 10 miles from Scotlands capital, Edinburgh. I’ve lived in and around this area all of my life and love it. I’m from a family of four, Sandy, Marjory and my sister Kayleigh and have a girlfriend of many years Tricia.

I was schooled at East Calder Primary School, West Calder High School and I’m a graduate of Heriot-Watt university with a 2:1 in Computer Science.

I enjoy a wide range of activities (anything to get a break from the computer really)  but as of late my main pastimes would be playing 5-a-sides football, mountain biking or a leisurely trip to the pub with good friends :D

I’m currently employed as a software developer / product manager at Bloxx. We develop filtering technologies for the internet and currently focus on HTTP/HTTPS traffic. Technologies used to build our current products are varied across it’s iterations. We work with Linux operating systems (RedHat/CentOS/Ubuntu) and use a wide selection of languages to get the job done. C/C++/Perl/Bash for backend systems. PHP/Perl/Javascript/HTML/CSS for the UI and we link these with sqlite and postgres databases.

Although I was initially employed as a software developer, when I joined, the protocol was to complete three months in support identifying issues, liasing with the clients and producing bug fixes. This three months turned to 2 and a half years with the latter half being employed to manage the support team.

With support under control with new upper management and an excellent replacement to take my role, I could get back to my original position.

Currently I am managing a small team working on a product for the company to increase its portfolio which I will update this page with once it’s released.
